Y-O-U and Comparison

My freshman year of college I was required to take multiple personality tests, StrengthsQuest and the MBTI, for a class. As I have progressed through college I have grown to love these tests and comparing results with the people I am surrounded by. 1st Corinthians 12 talks about the body of Christ. And we all know that passage of scripture is…well…overdone, overused, yada yada yada. But it is the Bible…so it is valid. I enjoy knowing that the Lord created us all differently so that we could each fulfill our individual purposes.

So you! Yes, you. What do you bring to The Table? You can come as you are–today, for me, that looks like a t-shirt, chipped nail polish and a messy bun. Whatever that looks like for you, know that you have talent. You have a role in this world that no one else can fill. No one else can play your part. No one else can fill your seat at The Table.

I believe our society today wants to kill our individuality. They [whoever “they” are] have sought to define what perfection and beauty is. When we aren’t fitting the mold or standard set we feel unworthy, unwanted, and unloved. Satan knows our minds and he takes every advantage he can get. Comparison is the number one killer of our individuality. He [Satan] will do his best to convince us there is something wrong with us. BUT 1 Corinthians 12:11 says, “All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines.” God intentionally distributed amongst us various gifts so we could fulfill the various roles he ordained for us. Let’s just make one thing clear: the enemy? ya he thinks he’s clever. He’s not. He uses the same tricks over and over. And we continually fall for them. “Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” [1 Peter 5:8]

A silent BEAST— of jealousy and lies

The number One killer of my Unique Design

I can’t fully be myself when trying  to be another

[LORD] Help me be Myself, instead of like my brother

So “you do you“. Because, believe me, this world for sure doesn’t need any more donut loving-mountain seeking-new cat lovers such as myself. But if you are like that, like me that is, probably we should be friends.

Here is to killing the comparison and embracing our unique, individual natures.

Until Next Time,

If you would like to share with my your StrengthQuest or MBTI results I would not be mad. ESFP for the win.
